Developed by physical therapist David Barouche, CobraPRESS on Kickstarter is redefining self-care through precision leverage. Designed to release locked muscles anywhere — from the couch to the office — this patented pyramid-head system delivers clinical-grade ischemic compression without strain or power cords. We spoke with David about the journey from CalfPRO to CobraPRESS® , and how his mission aims to make true muscle recovery accessible to everyone.

From Clinic to Couch
What inspired the creation of CobraPRESS on Kickstarter, and how did your experience as a physical therapist shape its unique leveraged design?
CobraPRESS was inspired by necessity. The body requires “pressing” and “stretching” in order to reset malfunctioning, tight and restricted achy muscle zones. So with CalfPRO® I introduced the best way to stretch your calf deeply and now I’m providing a tool to do the other half of the treatment method, which is the “pressing” on the body to reset locked muscles. Locked muscles won’t stretch unless they are first deactivated by pressing. This is the complementary treatment tool to the CalfPRO® and the stretching poster that is provided in this Kickstarter campaign.
The Science Behind True Relief
You emphasize ischemic compression as the key to unlocking tight muscles. How does this technique, combined with CobraPRESS’s lever system, differ from what users experience with massage guns or foam rollers?
Great question. Foam rollers do provide ischemic compression if you sit on one spot and so they are still an excellent treatment method. The only problem is, you can only use them on the ground and you can’t get areas of your body like your upper traps and deep spots between shoulder blades and hip bones. Massage guns do not provide ischemic compression just vibrational percussion, which is why they cannot reset a locked muscle. CobraPRESS can be used in your bed, on a couch, on a plane or at your desk and can hit all the spots you need, with levered precision. Focus pressure, exactly where you choose to put it.
Design That Delivers
The CobraPRESS uses a patented pyramid head and detachable personal pyramid for precision. What challenges did you face in engineering a tool that provides both deep pressure and everyday comfort?
This product has been going through multiple iterations since 2018. The pyramid is a basic design, but putting that pyramid on a lever system that is both stable, and provides leverage was a big challenge. The flexible nose fulcrum was the design breakthrough and is part of the patent.
CobraPRESS on Kickstarter: Empowering Everyday Recovery
CobraPRESS helps users relieve tension from their desk, couch, or bed — no contorting or strain required. How important was accessibility and user independence in your design philosophy?
It was fundamental because I needed exactly the same flexibility. I have had knots in my shoulder blades and neck and I’ve had so much trouble trying to press on them. Myself, this tool gave me the ability to press on my achey knots whilst watching a movie in a cinema or away in a hotel room on my bed watching a movie. Everyone should have the ability to press on their knots and stop their ache easily just like this.
Looking Ahead
Following your success with CalfPRO, what’s next for you and your mission to bring clinical-grade relief to people at home beyond CobraPRESS on Kickstarter?
Next is to deliver a treatment system in a more complex manner by using the press and stretch method to deliver treatments for all diagnoses in physical therapy. The idea is a person can input their diagnosis like knee pain, and a full treatment method will be produced with pictures, graphics and videos to guide them through the process of fixing their own knee.
I can’t wait to see a world where people are less dependent on healthcare professionals, and more interested in self-care with a method and tools that deliver real results!

FAQ about CobraPRESS on Kickstarter
What makes CobraPRESS different from other massage tools?
Unlike massage guns or foam rollers, CobraPRESS uses leveraged ischemic compression — deep, sustained pressure that resets locked muscles rather than simply vibrating or rolling over them.
Can CobraPRESS be used anywhere?
Yes. Its portable design allows use from a couch, bed, or even airplane seat, eliminating the need for awkward floor setups.
Is CobraPRESS suitable for beginners?
Absolutely. The tool comes with a Quick Start Guide that helps users apply the PRESS and STRETCH method safely and effectively, no prior experience required.
How does CobraPRESS complement CalfPRO?
CalfPRO focuses on stretching muscles, while CobraPRESS focuses on pressing and releasing them. Together, they complete the “Press and Stretch” treatment philosophy.
