ROUGH STUFF #2 Comic on Kickstarter featuring adult fantasy artwork

We spoke with the creator behind ROUGH STUFF # 2 Comic on Kickstarter, an adult comic anthology bringing together fantasy, horror, parody, and erotic storytelling from across more than two decades of work. Designed as a print-focused collection for mature audiences, this second volume gathers previously completed stories, many of them rarely seen, into a single curated release. In this interview, the artist explains why Kickstarter became the ideal platform, how the anthology took shape, and what backers can expect when they receive the finished book.

ROUGH STUFF # 2 Comic on Kickstarter: The Origin

What motivated you to return with ROUGH STUFF # 2 Comic on Kickstarter, and what made this second volume the right moment to revisit and curate this body of work?

After years of doing artwork for myself, my own Patreon/Subscribestar-A type websites, and private commissions, I'm left with a body of work that few have seen. I like the idea that I have found an audiance on Kickstarter that offers further possibilities; all I have to do is create and commission new covers and put together a campaign. It becomes a fun way to raise capital for my other projects and creativity that are in-process as well as show older work to a bigger crowd, plus put it in print for the first time.

An Anthology Spanning Two Decades

This issue gathers stories created across more than 20 years of your career. How did you approach selecting which pieces belonged together in this anthology?

After the success of AUTUMN MOON on Kickstarter and the creation of the first issue of ROUGH STUFF, I have a folder of possible materials that seemed workable for other collections. As an artist commissioned almost solely by email across the digital age, most everything of mine was already scanned once complete. This issue I wanted a better mix of color stories to balance the black and white. From there its about quality and page-count; I laid out the book to fit 24 pages and then ran with cover ideas!

Fantasy, Parody, and Erotic Storytelling

ROUGH STUFF blends fantasy, horror, parody, and adult themes. How do you balance narrative, atmosphere, and erotic elements when building these stories?

As I said, this is all previously completed work, I'm just trying to give the most bang for the book's buck. Much of my Kickstarter following seems to be following me over from AUTUMN MOON, my ongoing fantasy series that features a violent revenge tale and prominent hentai themes that I grew up titilated by. As those themes seem to be what people are looking for from my comics, I try to give them more from the library I have created.

Artistic Evolution Over Time

Some material dates back to earlier periods of your work, while others are more recent. How do you see your artistic style and storytelling evolving across the pages of this collection?

The bulk of these stories are based on script prompts from fans or commissions. I'm a professional comic artist who's been doing work like this (between other projects) for 25 years, so really all I see different is little things like the occaissional improvement in form or line-work. I think my colors have improved as well. I've honed my craft and try to keep putting in the effort that makes my fans enjoy what I present - as long as I enjoy what I'm working on, I don't get lazy.

The Backer Experience

With all the artwork already completed, what do you hope backers will appreciate most when they receive ROUGH STUFF # 2 Comic on Kickstarter in print form?

It's fullfilling for me to see my work in print as a physical-media guy, so I presume others feel similarly. That said, a lot of my backers choose digital/PDF tiers only. I can hopefully deduce from all of the above that A) many have never seen everything in ROUGH STUFF #2, B) that in any case they enjoy these collections of NSFW comic art that I provide, and C) that they love variant covers and the other things offered with these campaigns. This issue I especially made sure to offer covers that reflect each of the longer comics inside, all of which are fan-art/parodies, and hentai fans always like that sort of thing.

As our conversation comes to an end, it becomes clear that ROUGH STUFF # 2 Comic on Kickstarter is less about launching something new than about giving existing work a second life. For its creator, the project feels like a moment of curation and reconnection — gathering years of commissioned and personal material, refining its presentation, and finally bringing it into print. Rather than reshaping his voice to fit a trend, the campaign leans into what his audience already responds to: fantasy, parody, adult themes, and carefully crafted variant covers. In that sense, ROUGH STUFF # 2 reads as a natural extension of a long creative path — one now shared with a wider audience through crowdfunding.
