PH000 or PH00? T5 or T6? The screw in a drone arm or a pair of glasses usually carries no label, and the bit you try first is often the wrong one. Guess wrong, and the head strips. The Arrowspace S1 screwdriver removes the guess: a camera in its tail reads the screw, and the case lights up the matching bit.

On Kickstarter, Arrowspace calls the S1 the world's first AI electric screwdriver "with eyes and brain." The brand is new, but the team is Arrowmax, a repeat creator whose SES PRO and SES MAX electric screwdrivers were both funded there. The Arrowspace S1 screwdriver price on Kickstarter is $149.

Quick Verdict

Our verdict: 8.5/10

Who Is It For?

The Arrowspace S1 is an AI electric screwdriver for people who open a device now and then, a laptop, a drone, a pair of glasses or a game console, and would rather not guess the bit size. RC builders, scale modelers and electronics hobbyists who want repeatable torque are its second audience.

Main Strengths

  • One scan identifies the screw and lights the matching bit in the case, so the bit is chosen before you reach for it.

  • Auto mode sets a preset safe torque for the identified screw, so small fasteners and plastic parts start from a cautious setting.

  • Up to 10 kgf·cm of electric torque, plus 30 kgf·cm by hand, covers delicate electronics and heavier hardware with one driver.

  • The aluminium case holds 52 S2 steel bits and shows the identified screw on its own color screen.

  • Arrowspace rates the 600mAh battery for more than 900 screws per charge, with a USB-C recharge in about 70 minutes from a compatible charger.

Main Limitations

  • Screw identification runs in the companion phone app, so it needs your phone connected.

  • The model recognizes 12 common screw-head profiles, at around 95% average accuracy in Arrowspace's own tests, and severely worn or non-standard heads may not be identified.

  • The integrated prototype already runs the full workflow, but tooling and a pilot run were still ahead at launch.

Is the Arrowspace S1 Worth Backing?

Yes, for the occasional repairer described above, who loses more time choosing bits than turning screws. Anyone who works on the same devices every day and reads a screw at a glance should pass, and the campaign's own FAQ says as much. The reason to back is the scan-and-light bit finder, and the Arrowspace S1 screwdriver is on Kickstarter .

Arrowspace S1 Screwdriver Price on Kickstarter

The Arrowspace S1 screwdriver price on Kickstarter is $149, against an MSRP of about $216 implied by the campaign's 31% discount. That KS Special is the tier to take, since it carries no unit cap: it includes the screwdriver, the Illuminated Smart Case, the bit set and a Power Tip Extension. An Early Bird with the same kit at $129 is limited to 700 units.

Shipping is extra: $16 by air freight, paid in the PledgeBox survey after the campaign, so one kit lands at $165. That is a fair price for a complete kit: the case, the bits and the extension are all in the box, nothing else needs buying to start, and the Angle Screw and Magnetic Workpad stay optional. Two buyers splitting a Family/Pro Pack, $238 for two kits and limited to 100, pay $134 each delivered. It is $149 on Kickstarter .

What Is the Arrowspace S1 Screwdriver and What Problem Does It Solve?

Arrowspace S1: An AI Electric Screwdriver With a Camera, a Probe and a Lighted Case

The Arrowspace S1 is a precision electric screwdriver that works in tandem with its storage case. The driver carries forward and reverse keys, a torque button, an OLED status display, LED lights, and an HD camera with a distance probe at the rear. The CNC-machined aluminium case adds a 2-inch color screen, and an iOS and Android app connects the pair over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

The driver is 18 mm across, 170 mm long and 85 grams; the case measures 228 by 115.5 by 27.6 mm. Arrowmax has built precision tools since 2010, and its hexagonal tool designs won a Red Dot award in 2021 and an iF Design Award in 2023.

Why Choosing a Bit Became the Hard Part of Small Repairs

A five-minute repair can end with a ruined device. Glasses, drones and laptops hold some screws smaller than a grain of rice, hard to see clearly, let alone identify. A bit that does not quite fit can strip the head, and removing the screw becomes a second job. The right bit was in the case all along, stored sideways with its tip out of sight.

With the S1, the bit comes out of the case already matched to the screw, with no trial fits on the head. Your hand still does the work.

AI Screw Identification: A Fixed-Distance Camera and a Lighted Bit Slot

A physical probe fixes the camera at a repeatable working distance. At 1 mm off the right distance, the image blurs and recognition fails, so the probe rests on the screw head before each scan. The phone app identifies the drive type and size, then the case shows the screw profile on its screen and lights the matching slot.

The model was trained on tens of thousands of photos collected in house, with glare, worn heads and off-angle shots deliberately included. The app displays the captured image with the recognized type, size and recommended bit, so you can check the reading yourself, and the recognition model is updated through the app.

Auto Torque From 1 to 10 kgf·cm, Matched to Each Screw

Auto Torque Assist is on by default, as a conservative baseline for first-time users, and the driver remembers your last setting. Arrowspace says Auto mode protects the fastener and the workpiece from over-torque damage in most scenarios. Outside Auto, the button cycles through four modes, with torque level, direction and battery shown on the OLED display.

In the app, each of the four modes takes a custom value. The campaign's chart for plastic parts puts earbuds at 1 kgf·cm, laptop casings and SSDs at 3, RC cars and drones at 6, and e-bikes at 10, and it tells users to check the device maker's specification first.

30 kgf·cm by Hand, 90 Minutes per Charge: Power and Bits

When the motor runs short, the S1 switches to manual mode on its own, a patented dual-mode design, and its mechanical structure is rated for up to 30 kgf·cm by hand. Arrowspace says its electric torque places the S1 among the most powerful precision electric screwdrivers in its size class, and the motor reaches 280 RPM with no load.

Arrowspace rates the battery for 90 minutes of continuous work. The S2 bits are hardened to HRC60, extended ones reach screws sitting deep in a housing, and a double-sided magnetic holder keeps them seated while the tip holds the screw.

Arrowspace S1 vs Arrowmax SES MAX: Torque, Battery and Weight

On Arrowspace's own comparison chart, the S1 leads the SES MAX and SES PRO on electric torque, 10 kgf·cm against 4 and 2, and on battery capacity, 600mAh against 500mAh.

The SES MAX wins on weight and bit count: 62 grams to the S1's 85, 340 grams with bits against 520, and 70 bits to 52. If you own one and mostly drive screws you already recognize, the S1 adds torque headroom and weighs more.

Should You Back the Arrowspace S1 Screwdriver on Kickstarter?

The Arrowspace S1 is a precision electric screwdriver that leaves the feel of manual work in your hand. Opening a laptop to swap an SSD and tightening the gimbal bracket on a drone are the jobs it was built around.

Arrowmax's GC6 campaign is marked fulfilled on Kickstarter, and the KS Special is the pick. At $149 against an MSRP of about $216, the Arrowspace S1 screwdriver is on Kickstarter .

FAQ about the Arrowspace S1 Screwdriver on Kickstarter

Does the Arrowspace S1 need a phone to identify screws?

Yes. The camera captures the screw head, but recognition runs in the app on your phone, which sends the result to the Smart Case. Motor, torque, charging and display work without the app, so the S1 stays a usable electric screwdriver with no phone connected.

It tells you. When confidence is low, the S1 shows candidate matches instead of committing to one, and it flags severely worn, deformed or non-standard heads rather than guessing. The model covers 12 common screw-head profiles.

No. Images travel from the screwdriver to your phone over a local connection, and recognition runs there. Nothing is uploaded to the internet or a cloud server.

With an add-on. Drill Bit Converter Sets A and B each add ten titanium-coated high-speed steel drill bits and an adapter, covering 0.5 to 2.3 mm between them, at $23.90 per set plus $5 shipping.

Yes. The Standalone Version, a Kickstarter-exclusive tier at $79 limited to 100 units, is the screwdriver alone, without the case or bits. Without the case, no slot lights up: the app names the bit instead. The Smart Case will stay available separately.

Each wins on something. The ATuMan X3 is a manual 78-piece precision kit with 69 S2 steel bits across 11 types, more than the S1's 52. The S1 is an AI electric screwdriver: it adds powered torque up to 10 kgf·cm and identifies the screw for you.
