AquaKara on Kickstarter: A Shower Phone Holder With a Built-In Bluetooth Speaker

Watching something in the shower means choosing what to give up. Put the phone in a case and the only sound is the phone's own speaker, shut inside with it. Set a shower speaker on the ledge instead, and the phone with your video stays outside the spray. The AquaKara shower phone holder with speaker puts a dedicated speaker beside the screen, on the wall in front of you.
AquaKara comes to Kickstarter from an Auckland team with more than a decade in precision mold making, injection molding and tooling, and six years spent almost entirely on Bluetooth speakers built for other brands. The AquaKara price on Kickstarter is $68.

Who Is It For?
People who keep a YouTube video, a TikTok feed or a podcast going while they shower. The two- and three-unit tiers are pitched at couples, roommates and homes with more than one bathroom.
Main Strengths
The phone enclosure and a Bluetooth speaker come as one unit, with volume, power and track buttons beside the screen, so there is no second device to charge or place.
The holder rotates 360° and tilts, and the front stays touch-friendly with the phone inside, so the screen sits at a comfortable angle.
AquaKara measured 11 hours 23 minutes of playback at 50% volume and 4 hours 21 minutes at full volume on a prototype, so buyers know what a charge buys.
Trial production is complete and the production procedures are finalized, so pledges fund a first commercial batch of a product that already exists.
Kickstarter backers get a two-year warranty, twice AquaKara's standard term.
Main Limitations
It only fits bare phones up to 160 x 84 mm, with no case and no foldables, which rules out the iPhone 17 Pro Max (163.4 mm) and the Galaxy S25 Ultra (162.8 mm).
The brand has not published the speaker's output, its driver size or the Bluetooth version.
AquaKara is the team's first own-brand product and its debut on Kickstarter, with commercial production and international delivery still ahead.
Is the AquaKara Worth Backing?
Back it if a video or a podcast already follows you into the bathroom. Owners of an iPhone 17 Pro Max, a Galaxy S25 Ultra or a foldable should pass, because those phones will not fit. The decisive reason is the speaker built into the enclosure, with its buttons beside the screen: the AquaKara on Kickstarter puts both on one wall mount.
AquaKara Price on Kickstarter
The AquaKara price on Kickstarter is $68, against a planned retail price of NZ$229, about $130. That is the Super Early Bird, the tier to take: limited to 1,500 units, it includes the unit, the Twist-Tight wall mount, the mount adapter and a 30 cm USB-A to USB-C cable. Homes that need more than one can add extra units to the pledge, or take the two- or three-unit Early Bird tiers.
Shipping is charged after the campaign, capped at $25 for a US address, with no packing fee on top and import duties prepaid wherever Delivered Duty Paid shipping applies. That brings a US backer to about $93 before sales tax, roughly $37 under a planned retail price that excludes shipping. It is fair value for the kit, with one cost to plan for: a USB power adapter, which is not in the box. It is $68 on Kickstarter.

What Is the AquaKara and What Problem Does It Solve?
AquaKara: A Shower Phone Case and Bluetooth Speaker in One Wall-Mounted Body
The AquaKara is an enclosed shower phone case for the wall, with a Bluetooth speaker inside the same housing. The phone slides in behind a flip-open lid, a snap-lock latch holds it shut, and the whole case sits on a twist-tight mount. It was designed for the shower first: that is where AquaKara focused its design, testing and guidance.
It comes in Slate Gray, Deep Black and Soft White, and the name pairs Aqua, for water, with Kara, from karaoke. This is the team's first product under its own brand, and it reaches backers past the prototype stage: trial production is done, production staff are trained, and the problems found in the trial run have been resolved. AquaKara says certifications for its planned markets are complete and that backers will receive the same product shown in the campaign. Mass production is scheduled for December 2026.
Why Pausing for a Shower Became Its Own Problem
Everything stops at the bathroom door. The episode goes on pause, and the phone waits on the counter, well away from the water, with its messages unread.
With the phone on the wall within reach, the episode keeps running from the first rinse to the towel, and a track gets skipped without stepping out of the spray.
AquaKara Key Features and Specs: Built-In Speaker, Case and Fit, Battery, Wall Mount
Built-In Bluetooth Speaker With Physical Controls: Shower Audio Without a Second Device
Five buttons sit beside the phone: volume up, volume down, power, previous track and next track. The phone pairs with the unit over Bluetooth once it is inside. AquaKara's own comparison sets out the difference: a shower phone case plays through the phone's own speaker, while a shower speaker leaves the phone elsewhere, with its controls on the speaker.
AquaKara positions the speaker for everyday listening to music, podcasts and video, not as a replacement for a dedicated high-end speaker, and expects sound and perceived volume to vary with the bathroom's acoustics and the noise of the water.
Snap-Lock Case and Phone Fit: Four-Step Setup, 360° Rotation and Tilt
Setup takes four steps: open the latch and lift the lid, insert the phone, close and lock it, then pair and turn the case to the angle you want. A campaign video does it in 25 seconds. The front is built for tapping and swiping with the phone enclosed, provided the lid, the latch and the USB-C port cover are all closed.
Fit is the strict part. The phone has to measure 160 mm (6.30 in) high and 84 mm (3.31 in) wide or less, bare, with the lid and latch closing without force. Even a thin case can affect the fit, the closure and the touchscreen, so it comes off first, and foldables are not supported.
11-Hour Battery and 5W USB-C Charging: One Unit, One Cable
AquaKara's runtime figures come from prototype testing from a full charge, and real runtime varies with volume and use. It charges over USB-C at 5V and 1A, up to 5W; in the same testing, a full recharge from a 5V source with the unit off took 2 hours 49 minutes.
There is nothing to detach for charging: the whole unit charges through its USB-C port. It should be charged in a dry spot, away from running water, once the product and the port are dry. The cable is in the box, but a power adapter is not.
Twist-Tight Wall Mount and IPX5 Rating: Glass, Glazed Tile and Shower Spray
The mounting pad has to make full, flat contact with one continuous surface, which means smooth glass or flat glazed tile. Grout lines, seams, cracks, natural stone, porous or pitted surfaces and curves are all ruled out, and the mount should stay unloaded for 24 hours before the case goes on it.
The unit is rated IPX5 for normal shower use. It must not be submerged or used underwater, and powerful or high-pressure jets should not be aimed at it.
Should You Back the AquaKara on Kickstarter?
The AquaKara is a shower phone holder with speaker, made for people who count the shower as part of their screen time. A chat or a message read through the front cover before the towel comes out, with the phone never leaving the wall. Couples, roommates and multi-bathroom homes can put the same setup on each wall through the multi-unit tiers.
The team has already sent test shipments to its main launch markets, and shipping is planned for January 2027. The Super Early Bird is the tier to pick. At $68 against about $130 retail, the AquaKara is on Kickstarter.
FAQ about the AquaKara on Kickstarter
Will my phone fit in the AquaKara?
Only if the bare phone is no taller than 160 mm (6.30 in) and no wider than 84 mm (3.31 in), and the lid shuts without force. Foldables are not supported. Apple lists the iPhone 17 Pro Max at 163.4 mm and Samsung lists the Galaxy S25 Ultra at 162.8 mm, so both are too tall.
Is the AquaKara waterproof?
It is water-resistant: the AquaKara is rated IPX5 for normal shower use and must not be submerged or used underwater. Keep the lid closed, the latch fastened and the USB-C port cover shut, avoid high-pressure jets, and charge it only once the unit and its port are dry.
Can you take calls with the AquaKara?
Not hands-free. The AquaKara has no built-in microphone and is not a speakerphone, though you can see incoming calls and messages through the front cover.
Which shower walls can the AquaKara be mounted on?
Smooth glass or flat glazed tile, with the whole mounting pad on one continuous surface. Grout lines, seams, natural stone, textured or porous surfaces, cracks and curves are out. Leave the mount unloaded for 24 hours before attaching the unit.
What warranty do AquaKara backers get?
Kickstarter backers get a two-year limited warranty, double the standard one-year term, covering qualifying defects in materials, workmanship, electronics and supplied components under normal use. For approved claims, AquaKara provides an appropriate remedy and covers the replacement product or component and the necessary shipping where a replacement is needed. Support runs through backers@aquakara.com.
