Brigands of Arja warband game on Kickstarter by Firelock Games - fantasy skirmish miniatures

The Brigands of Arja warband game on Kickstarter does something most fantasy skirmish games never attempt: it makes the island itself your most dangerous opponent. Designed by Firelock Games, the Miami-based studio behind Blood & Plunder, Blood & Bayonets, and eight other successfully delivered wargame campaigns, Brigands of Arja raised $22,331 from 196 backers and closed fully funded. Digital rewards have already been delivered. Physical miniatures ship late May. The late pledge is open now.

Quick Verdict

Who Will Love This Campaign

  • Warband skirmish players who want a complete fantasy campaign compressed into a single afternoon session

  • Solo and co-op wargamers looking for a tactical miniature game that works without a full table of opponents

  • Painters drawn to fully customizable resin miniatures with no mold lines and dark fantasy aesthetics that reward individual expression

  • Fantasy tabletop players who want a system where the monsters roaming the board are as dangerous as any rival warband

Main Strengths

  • Firelock Games has 10 successfully delivered Kickstarter campaigns, one of the strongest creator track records in independent wargaming

  • A complete multi-game campaign is playable in a single afternoon, a genuinely rare design achievement in the warband skirmish category

  • Every character is fully customizable: stats, equipment, head and weapon options are all player-designed, meaning no two warbands are ever identical

  • Digital rewards already delivered to backers, physical miniatures on schedule for late May, an extraordinary fulfillment signal for a campaign still in late pledge

Possible Limitations

  • The $25,000 stretch goal for the Sorcerer alternate sculpt remains locked, it was not reached during the campaign

  • Brigands of Arja is Firelock's first original fantasy warband game, their track record is built on historical wargames

  • The all-in physical tier at $275 is a significant late pledge commitment for a campaign already in fulfillment

Is the Brigands of Arja Warband Game Worth Backing?

Yes, with confidence. Ten delivered campaigns, digital rewards in backers' hands, physical shipping imminent. The core box delivers a complete warband skirmish experience with rulebook, 8 customizable resin miniatures, monster model, cards, dice, and tokens. For backers who want everything, the All-In Physical tier at $275 adds a full monster roster and character expansion in high quality resin.

Welcome to Arja. You Are Not Getting Off This Island.

Once the farthest outpost of a great oceanic empire, Arja has been cut off for generations. The last ship that tried to leave was swallowed by seas that no longer behave the way seas should. As resources dwindled and old power structures collapsed, warbands formed from necessity, then from greed, then from something harder to name. The mythical creatures that once lived at the edge of the island's stories moved inward.

This is the world the Brigands of Arja warband game drops you into. No rescue is coming. The only thing that matters on Arja is infamy: the measure of fear and respect you carve out of the island with steel and survival. The warband that accumulates the most infamy across the campaign wins. Everything else is just the story you tell afterward.

How the Brigands of Arja Warband Game Works

Build Your Warband, Your Way

Each warband consists of 3 to 6 warriors, every one designed from the ground up by the player. Stats, equipment, head options, weapon loadouts: all chosen before the first game, all shaping how your warband fights and grows. Each warband is anchored by a leader with a unique trait that defines the group's tactical identity. Because every element is player-chosen rather than faction-locked, the game produces an enormous variety of encounters even between experienced players who know the system well.

The D10 Skirmish System and Fatigue

Combat runs on opposed D10 rolls. A character's Fight or Shoot skill determines attack dice; the target's Agility determines defence dice. The highest individual result wins, with ties cascading to the next highest roll. Warriors accumulate Fatigue not just from taking hits but from failed athletics and overexertion. The more Fatigue a warrior carries, the more exposed they become to deadly wounds. Managing Fatigue across a game separates warbands that win skirmishes from warbands that win campaigns.

Turn structure runs on secret simultaneous character selection, with initiative values determining activation order. The decision of which character to commit, and when, is as much a read of your opponent as a read of the board.

The Island Fights Back

Opposing warbands are rarely the most dangerous thing on the table. Arja is full of mythical creatures that do not wait to be engaged: Serpents, Cyclops, Wendigos, Mimics, Orb Weavers, and worse. They follow their own behaviour logic and attack whatever is closest regardless of faction. Rival warbands can suddenly find themselves fighting beside each other against a threat neither of them invited. Those are the moments that generate the stories people tell about this game for years.

Campaign Mode: A Full Story in One Evening

A complete multi-game campaign in Brigands of Arja is playable in a single afternoon or evening. Each game runs under an hour. The post-game sequence that upgrades warriors, tracks infamy, and sets up the next scenario is quick and structured. Compressing genuine campaign depth into a single sitting without sacrificing narrative momentum is the game's most significant design achievement. Backers looking for a darker, Mythos-driven alternative in the same late pledge window will find a very different kind of tension in this Lovecraftian skirmish wargame on Kickstarter by Spectre Miniatures.

Firelock Games: Ten Campaigns, Zero Misses

Firelock Games is a proudly Latino and minority owned studio based in Miami, Florida. Their Kickstarter history runs to 10 created campaigns, all successfully delivered: Blood & Plunder, Blood & Bayonets, Blood & Valor, and Blood & Crowns have each built a devoted global wargame community. The miniatures across those campaigns set a resin quality standard: outstanding detail, no mold lines, minimal cleanup. The same production process applies to Brigands of Arja.

Brigands of Arja is Firelock's first original fantasy warband game, a deliberate step away from the historical accuracy that defines their reputation. The creative risk is real. So is the credibility behind it.

Already Delivering

The most important fact for any late pledge backer: digital rewards have already been delivered. The gloss laminated card deck, compatible with wet and dry erase markers straight out of the box, includes two pre-generated warbands to get players into the action immediately. Physical production is on schedule for late May. A minor correction on the acrylic tokens caused a brief delay, flagged transparently by Firelock in their April 20 update. Ten campaigns of fulfillment experience handles this as routine.
