We sat down with Jeff from the Neró team to discuss the engineering choices, patent approach, and long-term ambitions behind the Neró Lux Portable Bidet on Kickstarter. Where many travel hygiene products start life as simple lightweight accessories, Neró Lux presents itself as a production-ready, patented hardware device grounded in mechanical precision, water efficiency, and consumer confidence.
Here is what Jeff shared with us.
From Concept to Patent: Why Build the Neró Lux Portable Bidet Now
The Neró Lux Portable Bidet is positioned as a patented, production-ready device rather than a concept-stage product. What was the original problem that pushed you to develop this solution, and at what point did you realize this needed to become a protected, engineered innovation rather than just another travel hygiene gadget?
I travel a lot for work — across Asia, including China, and to Western markets like the US and UK. One thing I consistently noticed is that many hotels and public spaces simply don’t have bidets. If you’re used to washing with water, that becomes a real discomfort.
I tried existing portable bidets, but most felt underpowered or cheaply made. As a mechanical engineer, I felt the category lacked proper engineering.
Then, through user surveys, another concern kept coming up — water cleanliness. Many travelers worry about filling a device with tap water in unfamiliar countries. When I researched the market, I realized no portable bidet addressed the hygiene of stored water itself.
That’s when the direction changed.
We developed an integrated UVC system to support water cleanliness inside the device, and engineered a high-pressure delivery system in a compact format. At that point, it was no longer just a travel gadget — it was a genuine innovation worth protecting.
That’s how Neró Lux became a patented, production-ready product rather than just another portable sprayer.
Engineering Real Pressure in a Compact Format
Many portable bidets compromise on pressure, capacity, or size. How did you approach balancing strong, controlled water pressure, a 300 ml tank, and true portability in the Neró Lux Portable Bidet without relying on oversized motors or bulky batteries?
This was the toughest engineering challenge.
Most portable bidets make you choose — strong pressure, larger tank, or compact size. I didn’t want to compromise on any of those.
Instead of using a bigger motor or battery, we focused on optimizing the internal water pathway and pressure system. By reducing pressure loss and improving flow efficiency, we were able to deliver strong, controlled spray in a compact body. We also designed a laser-cut stainless steel nozzle to produce a fine, focused, and consistent stream rather than a scattered spray.
The 300 ml tank was intentional — enough for a proper wash, but still portable. It’s not about carrying more water, it’s about using it efficiently.
In the end, it wasn’t brute force. It was smarter engineering that allowed performance and portability to coexist.
UVC Integration: Practical Hygiene or Technological Statement
The Neró Lux Portable Bidet introduces a UVC system designed to support stored water cleanliness. What were the technical and safety challenges in integrating UVC into such a compact device, and how do you see this feature differentiating Neró Lux in the portable hygiene market?
The reason we added UVC was simple: peace of mind.
When you’re traveling and filling the tank from an unfamiliar water source, there’s always some uncertainty. After COVID, people are much more hygiene conscious. From our surveys, many users said they worry about germs in stored water. UVC is meant to help neutralize common waterborne bacteria and reduce that concern.
The real challenge was space and safety. We had to use the right materials so UVC can transmit effectively into the water, while ensuring the tank fully blocks any UVC from escaping. There must be zero exposure to skin or eyes.
Then we had to calibrate the power and irradiation time carefully — strong enough to be effective, but fast enough so users don’t have to wait too long, and efficient enough not to drain the battery. After multiple iterations, lab tests showed up to 99.99% reduction of three common waterborne bacteria (E.coli, S.aureus, P.aeruginosa) within 60 seconds.
Designing for Real-Life Use Cases: Travel, Recovery, and Daily Comfort
From traveling professionals to postpartum recovery and limited mobility users, the Neró Lux Portable Bidet addresses very different needs. How did you design the product to serve both everyday convenience and more sensitive medical or recovery-related use cases without overcomplicating the experience?
When it comes to people with special needs, comfort and pressure flexibility play a very important role.
The idea was to create a comfortable experience that adapts to different needs without making the product complicated. It should feel intuitive, not technical.
We designed two spray modes, and each mode has three adjustable speeds. That allows users to choose the pressure that suits them — whether they need something very gentle or something stronger. We also built in a gradual ramp-up, so when you switch speeds, there’s no sudden shock.
Beyond pressure control, we focused on how it feels in the hand. The weight distribution is balanced, and it operates with a simple one-button system. There’s no learning curve — it just works.
From Prototypes to Mass Production: Reducing Hardware Risk
You emphasize that the design is locked and production-ready, working with an established manufacturing partner. What steps have you taken to minimize the typical risks associated with hardware crowdfunding, and how does the Neró Lux Portable Bidet fit into your long-term vision for the brand?
Before launching, we made sure this wasn’t just a render or concept. We went through multiple functional prototypes, locked the design, and aligned closely on DFM before going live.
We also personally visited the manufacturer to understand their capabilities, verify their track record, and build a real relationship. For us, it’s not just about cost — it’s about trust and accountability. When you know the people building your product, you reduce a lot of uncertainty.
We were intentional about minimizing changes post-launch. Even our stretch goals are designed to enhance the product, not fundamentally change its core architecture. That protects the timeline and avoids scope creep.
Long term, Neró Lux is not a one-off Kickstarter product. It’s the foundation of a portable hygiene ecosystem under the Neró brand. We aim to build consumer products that genuinely benefit humanity and Mother Earth with every use. Every time someone chooses water over excessive toilet paper, it reduces tree waste and water consumption in paper production.
We want to walk the talk — embedding sustainability into everyday behavior through thoughtful design.
As our conversation with Jeff came to a close, one thing stood out: Neró Lux is not positioned as a convenience accessory, but as an engineered response to a daily compromise many travelers quietly accept. The Neró Lux Portable Bidet on Kickstarter blends mechanical optimization, patented design, and integrated UVC support into a compact format that prioritizes real-world usability. With a locked design, manufacturing partner in place, and a clear sustainability narrative, the project reflects a deliberate attempt to elevate portable hygiene from gadget status to a long-term product category.
